About the farm Nyeri's unique environmental conditions provide the perfect ecosystem for coffee cultivation. The region experiences distinct wet and dry seasons, creating ideal conditions for the coffee plants to thrive. Additionally, the volcanic soil in Nyeri is rich in nutrients, imparting distinct flavors and characteristics to the coffee beans. The Gaikundo factory is located within Nyeri, at the base of Mt. Kenya. It is situated at elevations reaching 1800 meters above sea level, with amazing views on a clear day, perfect soil and microclimate for high quality production and valuable access to the famous Rupingazi River for water. The Gaikundo factory has taken many steps to ensure that only the ripest, top-quality coffee cherries are processed. All cherries are handpicked and delivered to the mill the same day, where they undergo meticulous sorting. The cooperative's commitment to sustainable farming practices such as shade-grown cultivation and natural processing methods, further enhances the quality of the coffee produced. By incentivizing producers to improve their quality, this in turn improves the premiums the producers can be paid, and ultimately has a positive impact on their quality of life.
