KENIA Gachatha
Tasting Notes
Description
From the slopes of the Aberdare mountain range, at 2,100 meters above sea level in Nyeri county, about 150 km north of Kenya's capital, Nairobi, this coffee (mainly SL-28, with the presence of Ruiru 11 and Batian) is cultivated by the 1,542 members of the Gachatha Farmers’ Co-operative Society and processed at the iconic Gachatha Coffee Factory. Founded in 1963, the factory maintains a strong commitment to quality, sustainability, and community development. The factory is managed by Jane Nyawira, a reference for female leadership at origin. Her leadership goes beyond technical aspects: she manages the weighing, classification, and payment of coffee, personally attends to farmers, and promotes access to microcredits, agricultural inputs, and training. At NOKORA Specialty Coffee, we are proud to highlight the role of women like Jane in the sustainable development of specialty coffee. Processing follows the traditional wet method: selected cherries, pulping by multiple discs, overnight fermentation, washing and soaking, and thorough drying on raised African beds. All this with water recirculation and responsible practices that care for the soils and ecosystems of the area. In the cup, we find a clean and balanced expression of the Kenyan profile. Enzymatic fragrance with a chocolate background, notes of caramel, nut, and white flower, and a juicy acidity that structures the experience. Round body and smooth texture. An accessible and precise Kenya, ideal for filter and for those seeking a classic profile with delicacy.
