Hacienda Carmona
Tasting Notes
Description
Hacienda Carmona is a beautiful, sprawling estate located on the slopes of the Hunahpú Volcáno, in the heart of the Antigua Valley. It has been part of the Zelaya family for four generations, since the family first began cultivating coffee over 100 years ago. Maria Zelaya, who grew coffee and ran a thriving dairy for over 60 years. Maria was a woman of steely determination, deep passion and care, and generosity of spirit. As her family fondly recall, “she left a piece of her heart in every corner of the farm – from naming each cow to knowing and helping every single farm worker and listening to the stories of all who passed through”. After Maria passed away in 2024, her family came together to continue her work and honour her legacy of hospitality, building a restaurant on the property and opening up their forest trails to visitors. Today, coffee production is led by Maria’s nephew, Ricardo Zelaya, who similarly balances tradition with innovation, resulting in Hacienda Carmona’s enduring reputation for excellence. In this distinctive filter coffee, look for notes of red apple and pecan with a brown sugar sweetness.
