Colombia Huila Pink Bourbon
Tasting Notes
Description
New crop arrival of Colombia Pink Bourbon, which gained immense popularity as a Grand Cru in 2024. Introducing Colombia Huila Pink Bourbon, a rare varietal with delicate aromas and a deep story of sustainability. The unique aroma, which spreads with the sweetness of ripe apricots on the first sip, followed by the freshness of grapefruit, and subtly intertwined with orange blossom, herbs, and spice, possesses bright floral and citrus notes rarely found in typical Colombian coffees. Pink Bourbon, in particular, is a rare varietal genetically distinct from conventional Colombian coffee varietals. When the coffee cherries ripen, their color differs from regular cherries, appearing in orange tones like orange or salmon. This uniquely colored cherry was discovered by a Colombian farmer, who named it Pink Bourbon to commemorate its distinct color compared to regular coffee cherries. At the time of discovery, the farmer believed it to be a Bourbon lineage, as it was found among Bourbon trees. However, recent genetic testing revealed no genetic commonalities with Bourbon, confirming it to be a branch of Ethiopian indigenous varieties. Therefore, it is perhaps natural that this coffee shares flavor and aroma characteristics with Ethiopian coffees. The Colombia Pink Bourbon imported by Terarosa requires special harvesting techniques. Skilled workers, trained to prevent mixing with ordinary cherries during harvest, participate in the process, enabling precise harvesting and further enhancing quality. This process goes beyond mere high quality, also considering the quality of life for small-scale farmers and laborers through legal employment and sustainable production methods for coffee cherry pickers. A single cup of this coffee can lead to a better life for someone. Discover Colombia Huila Pink Bourbon, a coffee with a special story.
