Rwanda Red Caramel
Tasting Notes
Description
Red Tomato? Yes, you heard that right. A truly lovely coffee: sugary, low in acidity, and wonderfully refreshing. Rwanda, a fertile, mountainous, and small yet densely populated country, relies heavily on agriculture. Farms in the Nyamasheke region are typically small and family-run, with households tending to their coffee trees and harvesting the cherries themselves. Farmers transport their coffee cherries by foot or bicycle to the Gatare Washing Station. Upon arrival, staff hand-sort and float the cherries to remove any that are unripe, insect-damaged, or drought-affected. The selected cherries are then spread in thin layers on drying beds, where they dry for three to four weeks, depending on the weather. When this coffee touches your palate, it will likely flood your senses with a lingering Caramel sweetness, the silky texture of Red Tomato, and a hint of refreshing Watermelon, followed by a subtly savoury finish. This coffee is a prime example of high-quality Rwandan coffee, renowned for its clean and delightfully prolonged sweetness.
