Brothers Asefa and Mulugeta Dukamo started the company with one small office and a single washing station, with a vision to uplift coffee farming families in Daye Bensa, Sidama. They set up wet and dry mills at strategic locations and their own exporting company, now boasting 71 washing stations, 11 dry mills, and three farms. Hundreds of smallholder farmers in the Bombe Mountains of Sidama Bensa comprise Hamasho Village, known for generations of coffee cultivation experience. Daye Bensa Coffee works to enhance this knowledge, ensuring farmers maintain high quality. Daye Bensa Coffee is one of Ethiopia's Top 5 Coffee Exporters, supplying 7,500 tons annually to 25 countries. They operate a relationship-based model, directly influencing coffee quality. With Kenean Dukamo, Asefa’s son, Daye Bensa is focusing on "intentional coffees" and creative collaborations. The Archers' bond with Daye Bensa includes significant milestones like Frederick Bejo showcasing Hamasho Village at the National Brewers Cup in 2021, creative processing collaborations for exclusive lots, and a learning adventure at origin. 'Ethiopian heirloom' is a general term covering Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC) varieties and regional landrace varieties. JARC varieties are developed for productivity, quality, and adaptability. 74158 is a JARC variety whose flavor potential has been consistently observed. The first Hamasho Village Natural in 2020 surprised with notes resembling Panama Geisha's, featuring intense floral aromatics with fresh tropical and stone fruit qualities like jasmine, orange blossom, lychee, apricot, and lemongrass. Subsequent crops introduced blueberries, orange, and caramel, adding juiciness, richness, and depth. Hamasho Lot 2 Natural had jasmine, lychee, peach soda, melon, and mandarine, while Hamasho Lot 7 Natural delivered a dessert-like profile with peach cobbler, lychee, and bright mandarin, enhanced by strawberries. This Natural-processed Archers Lot offers succulent, sweet, tropical-tinged complexity of berries, stonefruit, and citrus with delicate white florals.
