Kenya Baragwi Guama is a washed-process coffee grown in the highlands of Kirinyaga County, where the Guama Factory operates as part of the Baragwi Farmers’ Cooperative Society (FCS). Founded in 1953, the Baragwi FCS supports nearly 17,000 smallholder farmers and oversees 12 wet mills, including Guama, which was built in 1974 at around 1,800 meters above sea level. Today, the factory serves approximately 2,000 local producers who deliver handpicked cherries for careful processing. Once harvested, the cherries are sorted at the mill, then de-pulped and fermented overnight to remove the mucilage. After fermentation, the coffee is washed and sorted by density in long channels before being sun-dried on raised beds to achieve a stable moisture content of 10–12%. This lot is made up of SL28, SL34, Batian, and Ruiru 11—varietals known for their resilience, productivity, and cup quality at high elevations.
