Tasting Notes
Description
The Gititu Farmers' Cooperative Society (FCS), founded in 1954, is a key part of Kenya's coffee heritage. Located in Kiambu County's fertile highlands, it’s one of the country’s oldest cooperatives, with the Gititu Factory in operation since 1957. Serving about 5,000 smallholder farmers—each with under one hectare—the cooperative is known for its quality and transparency. Grown at elevations of 1,600 to 1,850 meters in iron-rich soils, the coffee benefits from a climate that enhances acidity and complexity. Gititu FCS cultivates SL28 and SL34 varietals, prized for high-altitude resilience and exceptional cup quality. Using a fully washed process, they produce coffee with distinct notes of vanilla, berry, and white grape. By promoting transparency and farmer engagement, Gititu FCS strengthens its members and enhances Kenya’s global coffee reputation.
