ETHIOPIA Tadese Teko – Filter
Tasting Notes
Description
From the highlands of Shale, a small village near Worka in Southern Ethiopia, this washed lot comes from Tadese Teko’s eight-hectare farm—a size notably larger than the regional average. His farm sits between 1,780 and 2,100 masl, rooted in deep red clay soils and surrounded by dense native vegetation. This coffee is part of a Single Farmer Project, a structure designed to provide traceability and market access for individual Ethiopian producers. While most coffees processed at the nearby Halo Beriti washing station are blended from hundreds of smallholder deliveries, this release remains fully traceable to Tadese’s farm alone. It offers a rare opportunity to experience the work of one producer, processed with consistency and integrity at one of the region’s most respected stations. Tadese, like many producers in the area, uses only organic material as fertilizer and does not apply chemical inputs. This lot offers a delicate and layered profile, opening with apricot, followed by jasmine, a hint of earl grey tea, and a sweetness reminiscent of bergamot. A citrus acidity brings lift and clarity, while the finish reveals soft, floral or fruit character depending on the brew method. During the harvest season, Tadese and his neighbors work at the washing station to support their income. The added stability from this project, and the recognition of his coffee’s quality, has allowed Tadese to invest in his land and provide education for his nine children.
