KENYA GITITU
Tasting Notes
Description
The Gititu wet mill is perhaps one of the newest mills in Nyeri, Kenya, having opened in 2022, but it has quickly gained popularity in the specialty coffee world. In just a few years, production has grown steadily, and the coffees have won awards for their exceptional quality. The mill is located on the red, fertile, phosphorus-rich volcanic soils of Mount Kenya. With natural drainage, consistent temperatures, and abundant rainfall, the region creates the perfect environment for strong, healthy coffee trees that produce dense, flavorful cherries. At Gititu, this ideal terroir is complemented by the team effort, which produces both traditionally washed and natural lots. The result is a balanced coffee with remarkable flavor and vibrant aroma. Processing is done with care. The cherries are sorted by hand by the farmers, separated according to ripeness, then laid out on raised beds to dry for 20-30 days until they reach a moisture content of 10-12%. The coffee is then stored in the dried husks of the cherries for protection before grinding and export. Product images are shown for presentation purposes.
